Snowfall earlier this week closed the doors to visitors at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. However, the animals inside still had the opportunity to experience a winter wonderland. Outdoor animals ventured away from their heated enclosures to play in the soft powder. Meanwhile, zoo staff brought snow to indoor animals, allowing them to interact with it too. Furthermore, animals native to warm areas, including the Persian onager and scimitar-horned oryx, acclimated well to the snow and investigated it thoroughly with hoof and snout.
