Lizards can be found all over the world, from tropical islands to arid deserts to your very own backyard. There are over 7,000 species that have been discovered by scientists, each with its own versatile habitat, diet, and way of life. From colorful chameleons to massive Komodo dragons to miniature dwarf geckos, lizards come in a variety of colors and sizes. With their dry, scaly skin and cold-blooded body temperature, lizards belong to the reptile animal classification group.

The thorny devil (Moloch horridus), also known commonly as the mountain devil, thorny lizard, thorny dragon, and moloch, is a species of lizard in the family Agamidae.

Designed specifically for elementary-aged students, our lizard unit study gives children the opportunity to learn more about what makes lizards reptiles, the various species of lizards, their unique habitats and diets, and how they reproduce. Included are five days’ worth of comprehensive lesson plans, downloadable instructional materials, activity worksheets, graphic organizers, writing templates, vocabulary activities, comprehension questions, and more!
